Beyond the Classroom: How Study Abroad Shaped Claire’s Engineering Journey
Meet Claire Zhang, a sophomore majoring in Biomedical Engineering (BME). She is the Outreach Chair of 3D PATH, a Biomedical Engineering club that teaches students 3D designing software such as Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Fusion 360, along with simple circuitry to create assistive medical technology.
Though not her original plan, Biomedical Engineering at Stony Brook became the ideal fit for Claire’s analytical and adaptable nature. The program allowed her to merge a disciplined engineering mindset with her interest in healthcare. She even found a way to incorproate studying abroad in Spain into her college experience. Her semester in Spain allowed her to expand her in Spanish language skills while encouraging learning beyond the classroom. She was also able to explore other subjects such as art history and medical coursework taught fully in Spanish, expanding her perspective and strengthening her communication skills.
